Californians Say No to 88 -- 76%+ Voted No!

Proposition 88 was soundly defeated on Election Day -- 76%+ voted now on the parcel property tax increase.

The No on Prop 88 campaign earned the support of a diverse coalition to defeat the proposition. The California Federation of Teachers and PTA said No on 88 because it was bad for our schools and bad for our kids.

The Federation of Labor AFL-CIO and the League of Women Voters said No on Prop 88 because it was an unfair tax, hitting the owners of the smallest condo with the same tax increase as an entire oil refinery or huge shopping center.

And business and taxpayer groups, led by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the Small Business Action Committee opposed Prop 88 because it would have created a whole new kind of statewide property tax that circumvented Prop 13's protection against increased property taxes. There would be no limit to how many of these taxes were imposed on homeowners and small business owners, or how much taxes would be increased.

Again, thank you for your interest and participation in Tuesday’s important election.
